Website Maintenance

Website Maintenance Services That Keep Your Site Fast, Secure and Online

A website is not a thing you finish. It is a thing you run. Our monthly website maintenance plans handle the updates, backups, security monitoring and speed work that keep your site earning — so you are never the last person to find out something broke.

What Happens to a Website Nobody Maintains

Nothing, at first. That is exactly the problem. A neglected website does not fail on a Tuesday with a warning email — it degrades quietly for months and then breaks at the worst possible moment, usually while you are asleep or on holiday.

Here is the pattern we see on almost every site that comes to us after a year without care:

Month 1–3

Plugin and theme updates start stacking up. Nothing visible yet, but the gap between your site and current versions is widening.

Month 4–6

A plugin conflict breaks a contact form. Enquiries stop arriving and nobody notices, because a form that fails silently looks exactly like a quiet week.

Month 7–9

Page speed has crept up as images and plugins accumulate. Rankings slip, and the mobile experience is now measurably worse than your competitors.

Month 10–12

An unpatched plugin vulnerability gets exploited. Now you are paying for emergency malware cleanup instead of maintenance — usually several times the annual plan cost.

Every stage above is cheaper to prevent than to fix. That is the entire argument for monthly website maintenance, and it is why our plans are priced well below what a single emergency recovery costs.

What Every Maintenance Plan Includes

The work that keeps a website healthy, done on a schedule instead of in a panic

WordPress Updates, Tested First

WordPress maintenance done properly: core updates, plugin updates, and theme updates applied on a staging copy first, so a bad release never reaches your live site. Website updates are logged so you can always see what changed and when.

Off-Site Website Backups

Automated website backups stored away from your hosting account, because a backup living on the same server as the site is not a backup. Restores are tested, not assumed, and we can roll you back to any recent point in minutes.

Security Monitoring & Malware Protection

Website security monitoring with regular malware scans and malware protection on every plan. If something does get through, our web security team handles the deep cleanup — you are not passed to a stranger.

Website Uptime Monitoring

Website uptime monitoring checks your site around the clock and alerts us the moment it stops responding. In most cases we have started work before you would have noticed — and you get told what happened rather than left guessing.

Performance & Speed Optimisation

Website performance monitoring with ongoing website speed optimization — image compression, caching, database cleanups, and Core Web Vitals tracking. Sites get slower on their own; keeping them fast is continuous work, not a one-off task.

Content Edits, Bug Fixes & Support

Included time each month for website bug fixes, content changes, and the small jobs that otherwise sit on your list for months. Technical website support and website hosting support are part of the plan — you email a human, not a ticket queue.

Your Maintenance Rhythm

Maintenance only works when it happens on a schedule. This is ours.

CadenceWhat we do
ContinuouslyUptime and security monitoring, with alerts the moment something changes.
WeeklyPlugin, theme and core updates applied on staging, then pushed live once verified.
MonthlyFull backup verification, malware scan, speed test, broken link check, and your report.
QuarterlyDatabase optimisation, unused plugin cleanup, and a review of what is slowing the site down.
As neededBug fixes, content edits, and hosting issues — using your included monthly time.

You get a report every month — what was updated, what was blocked, how fast the site is, and how much of your included time you used. No mystery invoices, and no wondering whether anything actually happened.

Frequently Asked Questions

What business owners ask before starting a maintenance plan.

Do I really need a website maintenance plan?

+

If your website brings in enquiries or sales, yes. If it is a placeholder nobody visits, honestly no — and we will tell you that rather than sell you a plan. The deciding question is simple: if your site went down tonight and stayed down for three days, would it cost you money? If the answer is yes, maintenance is cheaper than the alternative.

Can't I just update the plugins myself?

+

You can, and clicking "update all" takes about a minute. The risk is the one time in twenty when an update conflicts with your theme and takes down a page — usually with no recent backup to fall back on. We test updates on a staging copy first and keep verified backups, which is the part that is tedious to do yourself and expensive to skip.

Do you maintain websites you didn't build?

+

Yes, and most of the sites we look after were built by someone else. We start with a free site health check to see what state things are in. If there is a backlog of overdue updates or existing problems, we will quote separately to clear it before the monthly plan starts, so you are not paying a maintenance fee to sit on top of known faults.

What if I need more work than my plan includes?

+

Your plan includes a set amount of time each month for edits and website bug fixes. If a job needs more than that, we quote it before starting — never afterwards. Larger pieces of work such as a redesign or new functionality are handled as separate projects by our web development team.

Does maintenance cover ecommerce sites?

+

Yes. Ecommerce website maintenance sits on our Ecommerce Care plan and covers WooCommerce and Shopify stores, including checkout and payment gateway monitoring. Online stores need more attention than brochure sites because a broken checkout costs money every hour it stays broken.

Am I tied into a long contract?

+

No. Plans run month to month and you can cancel whenever you like. If you leave, your backups and site access come with you — we do not hold anything hostage. We would rather keep clients because the service is worth paying for than because leaving is difficult.
